Chapter 10

Blowers on the Knots

I

“Isn’t this the sigil of the Serpent’s Tribe? The men who were hunted?” The young Princess Daksha asked her older sister Princess Disha who was deeply engaged in her reading. The little one was unable to hold her curiosity in. She continued, “I don’t understand, weren’t they defeated five thousand years ago and their tribe hunted to the edges of the world?”

“They were,” answered Tirupati. “Or so is mentioned in the book, Ancient History of the Known World. But the incident that happened last night indicates that either they are back or someone is scamming us. An ugly scam which I highly doubt anyone would dare to play, not even the bandits,” he added.

“Why were they hunted so badly?” Daksha threw another question at Disha.

Tirupati smiled as if he was waiting for this very moment and said, “Magic.” He walked a few paces then continued, “A nefarious force was the reason for them being hunted and for their eventual extinction as well. Because it was the real key to their power.” He looked around to check for the presence of anyone else but the library was all clear. So he continued, “I mean if the book is to be believed.” He tried to change the topic but the Princesses were far too deeply interested in the subject to let him do that and implored him to continue.

He sighed before continuing, “The Serpent’s Tribe were the people who once ruled this land. They had remarkable skills in every field of life. It is said that they had dominion over a mysterious force like none other had before them. They built this Castle of Dharma Megha and carved out various structures on specific vortex energy spots on this mountain as well as in other parts of the Known World. But their knowledge did not come in handy for them when their end arrived.” He started looking through a bookshelf before continuing, “It is said that they conspired against the other three Empires of the Known World. They overthrew Kings like chess pawns and dominated the world’s political affairs from this very place. They declared themselves the absolute rulers of the world, making their Empire the central authority over every other kingdom.”

“And what about their King? The Tyrant?” asked the little Princess. “Wasn’t he supposed to be immortal?”

“If we are to believe the books, he was. The legend also states that he was not killed but put to sleep. A long unending sleep. With the Tyrant gone, the tribe didn’t last very long. Internal feuds divided them and the great hunt made sure that they went extinct.”

“The hunt for them was launched when King Rudra who later became Emperor Rudra got wind of the truth about what they were actually doing. He waged an all out war on them, uniting the other three Empires with his own. Thus, they were defeated and hunted to the very ends of the world.”

“And what was it that they were doing?” asked Daksha, intrigued.
